Young Adult Matters, starring Ahn Heeyeon (Hani), is out in theaters this month. However, a few lucky people got to see it early. The movie was shown at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in October 2020.((Our article about Young Adult Matters being released in April: https://leggonews.com/2021/03/22/young-adult-matters-with-actress-heeyeon-hani-released-in-theaters-this-april/))
Hani’s vlog of BIFF was published on May 15, 2021 on Sublime Artist Agency’s YouTube channel.((Hani’s vlog of BIFF: https://youtu.be/szdpS2OxOik))
A translation of the vlog is below. To make it easier to follow along with the video, the translation is divided into chunks based on when the scene changes.
The video starts with Hani on a plane:
Hello.
I’m on the plane now.
I took a plane to go to Busan.
I tried to show you me getting ready in the morning. I couldn’t include it because I woke up late.
Next to me is Director Kim. My younger Actress Yumi is riding with me.
I’m planning to go to Busan and have a good time.
Most of all, the first movie I ever acted in… finally!
It means a lot to me.
I’m very excited and happy.
Well, see you later.
Bye!
(0:41) Hani is in her hotel room and continues the vlog:
I arrived in Busan safely.
The weather is good.
Mr. Director
Yumi
I see Haeundae over there.
Has it been 2 years since I came to Busan?
(0:53) Hani makes it to her hotel room:
After arriving in Busan, I had a quick meal and came back to the hotel.
I’m here to attend the Busan International Film Festival.
What film am I here for? The film “Young Adult Matters”. It’s directed by Lee Hwan.
It’s a very precious piece for me.
From the beginning of the shooting of my first movie, that process, so far, has been unique and special.
The role itself is very strong. The movie is strong too. Yea…
I got a DM for the role, from the director.
Actually, I declined at first. I said no.
But how did fate correct itself?
So now I’m here in Busan.
That’s what it was. That’s how it happened. Those were the times. These times right now too. It’s very special to me.
The first time I acted…
How it will be presented, what it will look like, I’m very very curious.
I’m finally able to see it.
I’m really really looking forward to it.
I’m excited.
Yea, well, how I feel right now. *excited grin*
Mr. Director, an actor — close friend — named Yumi. They’re precious to me. People are very important to me. Togetherness! I think it’s the most important thing. It’s very influential. I like people a lot. Even if I don’t say it often.
I hope that I can have a good time with good people.
A relationship that affects each other in a good way.
I hope they’re the kind of people I can be with for a long time.
I hope.
Enjoy the movie.
[???]
Then should I get some sleep?
(2:36) But she didn’t go to sleep. She starts recording again soon afterwards:
Yes, everyone.
I was about to go to bed.
Ah, I can’t wait to look around.
I’m going out now.
[???]
See you then.
(2:46) A quick camera cut later, and Hani returns:
Ah… yeah…
It’s refreshing.
I ran like this and only consumed 236 calories?
Isn’t that not very much?
Strangely enough, my face is getting very red.
So
I don’t know why.
In the middle of busy activity, it changes your daily routine for hobbies and self-care.
I wish I knew how to get some of that precious time for myself.
So, I try to run every time that I have spare time.
I’ll have to work as hard as I can.
Fighting everyone!
I’ll go wash up, haha.
(3:25) The next day, Hani makes her way to BIFF. As she is waiting around, she chats with staff.
Hi!
Do you see my eyes?
Oh, really?
But are these glasses bad?
Are the colored lenses weird?
Oh, it’s okay?
(3:56) Still outside waiting, Hani points to her finger and tells us about her ring.
This,
Yumi gave it to me.
You’ll understand when you watch the movie.
The colors are a Jooyoung theme.
(4:06) Still waiting in the same location, Hani suggests they go to a nearby coffee shop.
Shall we go to the café over there and try coffee first?
(at the coffee shop)
Mmm… carrot flavor.
(4:28) After snippets of BIFF play through, Hani is shown in the waiting room.
Uh… I only put on sunscreen.
I feel like I’m going to cry again anyway.
*pulls out napkins*
I’m prepared now.
Four napkins… four napkins… I’ve prepared.
(Walking now.) I’m excited and looking forward to it.
(4:55) The event starts and Hani is on the stage. After a quick introduction, there is a Q&A session. We’ll make the questions bold:
Yea, Hello. I play “Jooyoung”.
Yea. 😂
I’m Ahn Heeyeon or Hani.
Thank you.
Q. There are a lot of violent scenes in the movie, but was it hard?
Actually, in our movie, the one who got hit the most is “Jaephil” played by Lee Hwan.
When you got home, were there wounds you hadn’t noticed?
I thought it was an honor wound.
Q. Any behind-the-scenes stories from the movie?
After the scene where Sejin and I broke up, I texted the director on the way home…
“Director Kim, maybe Jooyoung, after I broke up with Sejin, I think I’m going home for the first time in four years. I thought I’d have the courage to go back home. I think I can look back at my past or myself.”
I remember saying that.
Q. Why did you choose “Young Adult Matters” as your first movie?
“Actually, I’ll be an actor” and…
There were a lot of options.
I didn’t choose this movie.
While doing this movie, I thought, “oh, if it’s like this, I want to act.”
Q. How do you feel about watching the movie today?
I was very touched by [???] while watching the movie “Young Adult Matters”. I was very proud.
I can’t wait to see you there.
